Ideal Avocado Tree – Dream Avocado
My Dream Avocado Tree
Ideal vs Real
Ideal avocado? Only in my dreams?
Reality vs expectations can be a pain when reality deviates remarkably from our hopes and imaginations. When what you believe should be turns out, at times, for the worst, far from what you had perceived, disappointment can creep in rapidly. On the other hand, ideal may even be surpassed by the real that turns out leaving one overwhelmed, overjoyed and ecstatic.
Bits and Pieces
I love avocados and I have always dreamt of having a tree that supplies me with avocados 24/7 365. Like many other plants, avocado trees have their seasons of growing and flowering. Having planted different cultivars and desiring to get the most, I have spent some time combining research and practical work, observing results and correcting errors, reading and writing, improving on what seemed to work and cutting down on what gave adverse results. Piecing up the bits, I have had some wonderful results that defied much what I read and pushed some outcome towards what I had imagined to have.
All Year Round
Generally, my avocado trees have been flowering July – September period and some have started flowering December – January and still checking. Considering that it can take as short as 6 months from pollination to fully ripen and as long as 18 months for some varieties, that effectively means, as long as we watch the following:
- Good watering
- Hours of Sunshine
- Right nutrients Potassium and Phosphorus
- Too much Nitrogen will cause more leafing instead
- Love your tree
With new fruit, at least twice a year, and a ripening period of an average 9 months, I am looking forward to avocados every day, all year round.
