About

Roe Makawa is a worship leader, gospel artist, music director and pastor who fronts the group Bayethe Gospel as lead singer and song writer. Her music genre is a selection of sungura, kanindo and fusions of afro jazz.

Since releasing her first single Bayethe, in August 2015, she has worked towards spreading her music in the region making notable impact in South Africa and Malawi. Singing mainly in Ndebele/Zulu, her knowledge of English, Shona and Sotho has enabled her to reach out to a wider audience, spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Biography

Loved by her community in Domboshava, Roe Makawa reminisces about how she started singing in Gwanda, where she was born in a family of five children. Known as Rorisang Ncube, she spent her early Christian days as a Christian Youth Leader in the City of Kings and Queens – Bulawayo and continued to sing both in the Church Choir and during Home Church services.

She later became a Praise and Worship director for His Musik and soon after working on their second album, she launched her solo career.

She has been described as enterprising and creative and as someone willing to try out new things as she strives to educate and entertain. She has received recognition for the role her music has played in influencing the community and has received an award “Excellency in Traditional Gospel Music” ZCN 3rd edition 2022. Her music genre borders on mbaqanga, afro-jazz and crosses over to rhumba, kanindo and other afro beats.

A gospel artist, mother and pastor who enjoys tending her garden and fashion designing, Roe always finds time to nurture those around her who are willing to learn and she helps them identify their gifts and talents, pushing them forward to achieve their dreams.

Spreading the Word of God in and around the community and nation and seeing the Word grow and take root in peoples lives, transforming them into what they were destined to be.
